Review: Margret McLaughlin/Slant 6/Dambuilders @ T.T. the Bears, 4/16/94

[from alt.music.hardcore -pogo]

saw Mag McLaughlin [sp?], Slant 6, and part of the Dambuilders at T.T. the Bears in Cambridge MA. okit was an ok show, but it was the first time i had been to TT's. TT's is real real small, and it seemed that last night all the imensly tall people came out of the woodwork.

the big suprise of the night for me was margret mclaughlin. i'm not sure if that is actually her name, if anyone else who went to this knows, tell me. i heard that she was/is in another band called spk-70 and this was her first solo show. she played half her set acoustic and half electric. wow. great songs and a great voice. i was impressed to hell.

slant 6 was good, but they seemed very out of it or tired or bored. their basist looked like she was going to fall asleep on stage. they played a long set though, about 15+ songs i think, 2/3 of which were from their CD. they only fucked up one song, but that was kinda funny cos their singer kept trying to sing the lyrics but kept laughing.

by the time the dambuilders got on TT's was packed. it was way way too hot and smokey. i guess the interesting thing about them was that they have a violinist. they were pretty interesting with a more "alternative" sound than hardcore. the kids on a.m.a would love them. i left shortly after the violinist broke her distortion padal as it was getting claustrophobic and i was having visions about becoming cattle....
