Review: Steady Earnest, Allstonians, High Hats @ WPI, 4/30/94

got up at 6AM. got bagel. at quad at 7:30 to set up stage. 2 other people there. block off parking lot, and set up stage. it's 8 and no sound guys are here yet. finally one shows up so we have to help him drag all the speakers and cords and whatnot to set up. we finally set up by 11ish and steady earnest gets here. they complement me on my voodoo glow skulls t-shirt. cool. it's gonna be a nice day.

Steady Earnest

steady earnest are the shit. their sound guy is real real cool and totally knows how to run a show and shit without being bossy but still getting things done. when steady take the stage there are about 15-20 people (including other bands people) hanging around. man , they are great. real mellow ska. dan vitale's voice is awesome. perfect for the day. i start bouncing around and generally making an ass of myself. what fun. by the time they near the end of their set, about 50+ people are on the quad having been woken up and pulled outside by the music.

The Allstonians

the allstonians have play a set of humour packed ska. they are heavy on the downbeat. by this time the frat guys are out with beer having fun skankin around. the noid from dominoes pizza is out on the quad. the frat guys try to teach the noid to skank. this starts resembling a great fun barbeque. i don't care for the alsstonians singers voice as much as steady, but i'm still having fun.

The High Hats

the high hats are next. they tend to do very long drawn out tunes which are more rocksteady than ska. they are still good but i sit this one out cos i'm getting tired and i also have a bad sunburn by now. the horn players in the band are great. it seems that the high hats wont ever finish their set. after three times of 'one more song' i get antsy.

right now, i'm in pain. my face is blistering due to all the sun. but it was worth it. yeah...
